Meet Alton, Miracle Child!

Alton was born with Down Syndrome which occurs when an individual has a full and partial extra copy of chromosome 21.  This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down Syndrome.

Throughout his life, Alton has also been diagnosed with Autism and heart, digestive, and immune system issues.  He has been treated at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital for many of these issues and has grown to love his doctors, especially Dr. Vicari.  Alton is quite the ladies’ man, and is a gold medalist in track events and softball throw at the Special Olympics!  Alton’s dad is a manager at a local Walmart Distribution Center that helped to get Alton to Boston when he needed surgery on his heart!
