Meet Dayton, Miracle Child!

On April 26, 2010, 5 year old Dayton was accidentally backed over by a half-ton pickup truck. Upon arrival at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, the staff soon realized he had suffered severe head trauma, and brought Dayton to emergency surgery to remove parts of his skull, to make room for his brain which was continuing to swell. During surgery, a part of his brain was removed, due to damages he had sustained during a massive stroke. Dayton was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where he spent 3 weeks being monitored very closely.

The Suires were given a 3% chance they would ever hear their son speak again. However, although his prognosis was unknown, from the time of the accident, Dayton’s family, his doctors and the rest of his clinical staff never gave up hope that he would recover – and Dayton never stopped fighting. Although he and his family continue to experience challenges resulting from Dayton’s accident, today he is a walking, running, jumping, talking Miracle and brings joy to all who have the privilege of meeting him.
