Meet Hattie, Miracle Child!

When Hattie was 3 1/2 years old, she was diagnosed with Spina bifida, Arnold Chiari malformation, and syringomyelia.  She spent many weeks at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) during which she endured multiple breathing problems and had to have a tracheostomy done.

Hattie’s mom, Amy, said “Since she was born, Hattie has had about 20 surgeries, most of which were related to her shunts…As a parent, our six weeks here were made more bearable thanks to the fabulous doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, techs, and child life specialists in the PICU.  They not only are exceptional at what they do but are compassionate and caring.”

Hattie has an older brother and twin sister.  At home, she enjoys playing with puzzles, looking at books, and playing dress up with her sister and brother.
