Meet Madisyn, Miracle Child

On March 2, 2015, 8 year old Madisyn was not feeling great and had already missed two days of school that week. That night, Lindsay, her mom, took her temperature and it was 104.6.  She was taken to the local hospital and then air lifted to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Later that night, Madisyn was diagnosed with Flu B, pneumonia with MRSA resulting in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or ARDS . She was in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator. Madisyn stayed at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital for a total of 51 days receiving life-saving treatment, seven surgeries and for 27 days was  in a medically induced coma. Madisyn had to learn to walk again.  Madisyn is currently receiving therapy 3 times a week to regain her strength and balance.  Madisyn is glad to be back home with her sister Austyn as well as her new dog, Big Chief!
